Is a Daiwa size 3000 overkill for 8-16lb rod?

Thinking about pairing a BG 3000 for a Eupro Salty Chief or Daiwa Blue Backer. Thank you!

Daiwa 3k Abt Shimano 4k, depending u doin casting or bait.
Should b fine it u dun mind the bulk. If not Shimano 3k or BG 2500 should b well matched

Put it together and see how you feel. If it feels "right" then ok. If not you should be looking at a Shimano 2500 or C3000.

Salty Fighter is abit on the soft side.
A daiwa 2500 will be perfect...with 200m of PE 1.5 line and some leader.

    depends of user preference

some us bass pro use shimano 4k size on 10lb rod for better line management and further casting distance due to larger spool diameter

Thanks people. I think the weight of BG series throws me off a little. Actually Shimano Stradic 4000 is (mono 8/140, 10/200, 12/160 braid 15/280, 30/170. 50/150) is about the same line cap as Daiwa BG 3000 (mono 8/240, 10/200, 12/170 braid 15/280, 20/240, 30/190). 280 grams versus 306 grams though.
