edited May 2011 in Catch Reports
Haven't been posting for awhile as haven't been catching anything significant worth posting for the past few trips.

This was a first trip to Merchong for me. Along with Alvin, Guoliang and Andrew..we headed up.
Boat: same as Rompin and Pekan
Accomodation: Kg Merchong Chalet
Food: Only a small stall at the chalet side selling nasi lemak
and prata stall nearby. We cooked our own dinner inside the room.
But the good thing is you can buy your live prawn on your way head out...Changi style

The week that we went was like a Tenggiri frenzy week throughout the east coast of M'sia...from desaru, sedili, rompin to Pekan. Everyone was catching them in good numbers in all the areas except Merchong. We only manage to get small one.

Here come the fishing part for Day 1:
2 person to a boat...we had all the space to CHU any pattern but only vertical rod holders present.
nothing to shout for the catches..except for 1 kg Ang Cho and a 2.5kg grouper by the boatman, a couple of 700g parrot and a small cobia by us. The rest were palm size Leng Chiamsss....and some hardtails on jigs

Day 2:
No action till we reach the afternoon. Hundreds and hundred of bonito bombing in the far and several schools of them. 3 boats ending up chasing them for about 2 hrs. Lost more than what we hit...but they seemed not to be interested in our lures and jigs.
Landed a bonito, small tenggiri and golden trevally during the chase.
Manage to hit some chermin, white trevally and a decent parrot to make up for the day.

The lack of a proper dinner on Day 1 make up by the amount of sashimi we had...Thanks to having Andrew on Board. Remember to pick a chef along when u go fishing :)

Day 1: We had a whole cobia, selar and Ang Cho sashimi. Ang Cho sashimi is really good. Do try it next time guys. Also sliced up a parrot for sashimi...abit tough so ended up eating fish bee hoon

Day 2: Bonito and white trevally sashimi. Nice

    pret, nice goldie !!!

if you like casting for light pelagics, it's good to throw some hairtail into your tackle box on your next offshore, killer for bonito/skipjack and dorado.

Hi pret, you can easily make your own.

you can goto LH/AO for a suitable size jighead, then pluck the feather off your neighbour's parrot  . a few round of thread and a dab of epoxy and you're ready to go! sometime i get lazy, will use shrink wrap over the thread.
